Butterfly Corner NOW OPEN!
Walk amongst free flying tropical Butterflies and exotic plants and look out for Butterflies emerging in the Puparium…
Back by popular demand – we are delighted to announce that Butterfly Corner is NOW OPEN!
Our specially constructed, temporary Butterfly Corner is open daily, during our normal opening hours, until Sunday 16th September, and it’s completely free of charge to visit.
Butterfly Corner is an enclosed area in our Plant House planted with an array of tropical plants where you can learn about the fascinating life cycle of the butterfly and watch the butterflies feed and fly. There is a puparium where new butterflies will emerge and without any predators this will be like living in a five-star hotel! Our younger gardeners will particularly enjoy spotting the different species, caterpillars and butterfly eggs. And for those of you that aren’t too sure about venturing into Butterfly Corner, we have a viewing window so the butterflies can be enjoyed by you from outside!
The pupae are supplied by the London Pupae Company and are mostly reared on their own farms in the Philippines and Thailand. When the house closes on the 16th September the butterflies, eggs, caterpillars and plants will be relocated to the Butterfly House at Whipsnade Zoo.
Don’t miss out on the chance to see these delicate winging beauties, it really is a captivating experience for children and adults alike!
From exotic butterflies to native butterflies…
Our Dahlia field and Celebration Garden, which includes a wild flower meadow, attracts a wide range of native butterflies. The Celebration Garden will be at its peak of colour at this time so be sure to enjoy a stroll around the garden at your leisure or relax on one of our benches and enjoy the views.
