Sustainable St. Albans Sustainability Festival 2019
We’re taking part in #SustFest 2019 – 3 Weeks of sustainability events across St Albans, Harpenden and the villages!
Here’s how you can take part too…
Recycle – Bring in your unwanted plastic pots to us for recycling.
There will be a collection point at the garden centre where they can be deposited.
Re-Use – Collect a free bag of coffee grounds from our Dahlia Coffee house for use in your garden.
If used in a compost pile it adds nitrogen. To use as a fertiliser, work the coffee grounds into the soil around your plants which will improve drainage, help with water retention and aeration to the soil. It will also help micro-organisms which are beneficial to plant growth and attract earthworms. Many gardeners like to use coffee grounds as mulch for their plants or to deter slugs, snails and sometimes cats from their flower beds. You can also use coffee grounds as worm food if you do vermicomposting with a worm bin.
