Outdoor Plant of the Month – Roses
Roses are one of the most popular garden plants and with over 100 species to choose from there is one to suit almost every situation.
For hundreds of years the rose has been widely recognised as the ultimate symbol of love, but different coloured roses are also used to convey different feelings and emotions. Red roses are used to show romance and passion, yellow roses are given to show empathy, happiness, friendship and platonic love and to deliver poetic romance and gentleness, delicate pink roses are used. Many roses have scented blooms and their names lend them to be given as gifts for special occasions and anniversaries.
Roses come in many different forms and they can be grown in borders, containers, over arches, pergolas and as ground cover. They are easy to grow and live for a long time, if looked after.
Traditionally England is signified by the rose, it is the country’s national flower. The rose came to prominence here during the ‘Wars of the Roses’, 1455 to 1485 when the house of Lancaster was represented by the red rose and fought against the house of York which was represented by the white rose.
We have a superb selection of Roses to choose from and our Plant Advisory team are on hand to help with your selection.
