Our Christmas Charity for 2019
We are delighted to announce that our 2019 Christmas Charity is the Hertfordshire Community Foundation Winter Appeal.
The HCF Winter Appeal raises vital funds to help vulnerable local people and families in crisis experiencing fuel and food poverty. Their aim is to help prevent local people from having to choose between eating or heating. By working with their partners Age UK and selected Foodbanks and Citizen Advice Bureaus they can ensure that the money goes directly to those who desperately need it in a simple and cost effective way. A small grant can make a huge difference. Importantly every penny raised stays within Hertfordshire.
Some facts specific to Hertfordshire include:
• For people facing a financial crisis there is a real risk to their well-being. Between August 2014 and July 2017 it is reported that over 2,100 people in Hertfordshire died due to poor living conditions in winter.
• The latest statistics, for 2017, reveal 8.7% of homes in the county – roughly one in 11 – are ‘fuel poor’, which means their energy costs are above average and their remaining disposable income after paying their bills puts them below the poverty line.
• As estimated 490 people sleep rough in Hertfordshire every night.
• An estimated 30,000 children in our county currently live below the poverty line.
Donations can be made into our Icy Sea Cave within our Magical Lemax Model Village display.
Thank you for your generosity, your donations will help vulnerable residents in Hertfordshire stay warm and well this winter.
