We are very proud of our Houseplant Greenhouse and with such a vast selection of indoor house plants available, it is vital to choose wisely and select the plant that will flourish in your environment, whether it be in the home or at the office.

It must be remembered that all indoor plants are outdoor plants in their native country, where they have the correct light, air and humidity for success. Our greenhouse (located at our St Albans based garden centre) provides the nearest equivalent.

Indoor house plants – do’s and don’t’s

There are some basic rules to follow for a successful, happy houseplant.

1. Don’t over water – Remember, most houseplants are killed by kindness; let the plant dry out a little between watering and if using a pot cover, always use some drainage in the bottom.
2. As a general rule, if your houseplant has variegated or highly coloured leaves, it will need more light (but not direct sunlight) than it’s plain green cousins.
3. Follow a plant’s individual requirements – shade lovers will not flourish on a sunny window sill whereas ferns would flourish in the humidity of a bathroom.
